The Department of Sociology went on a Field Trip to the Aizawl Solid Waste Management Centre, Tuirial on the 29th January 2024. 71 students from the Sociology 6th semester class, along with six department faculty members, went on the field trip.
The purpose of the trip was to conduct a study on the topic, ‘The Sociological Relevance on the Study of Dumping Grounds in Tuirial.’ For the study, students were divided into four groups and each group was assigned a faculty member as mentor and given separate topics to study. The students interacted with the workers in the dumping grounds and also had a hands-on experience on the working conditions of the workers including the rag-pickers.
